I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ray Zukowski.  I became a
railroad safety advocate recently when our neighborhood lost two young,
intelligent, beautiful girls after being struck and killed by trains in two separate
incidents.  After doing a little research I uncovered some very disturbing facts as
far as the state of Illinois and railroad related fatalities are concerned.  In 2005 the
state of Illinois was #1 in the country for highway
rail crossing fatalities, #2 in
highest number of highw
grade crossing collisions and #4 in pedestrian
fatalities the same year.  After uncovering the reasons why these fatality rates were
so high, I knew steps needed to be taken to correct the railroad safety issues in our
state.  On May 27, 2006 in honor of one of the victims, Kristen Teresa Bowen, a
new website http://www.kristenslaw.org was created.  This website was initiated
to make people aware of these safety problems and how we are going about
correcting them.  In a short period of time the site has taken great strides,
triggering political action at local and state levels, we have been recognized by the
Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun
times, Daily Herald, all the community papers
along with many radio stations as a positive force in railroad safety improvements.
Building on early success KristensLaw has now taken control of its own
train, a train named T.E.A.R.S. and we are welcoming all passengers aboard.
People that care and understand that lives can be saved.  T.E.A.R.S. is non
and picking up speed. With proper fueling this train will reach our destination.
Please, when you have time log on to www.kristenslaw.org and see what we are
all about.  Since February 2006 supporters and volunteers have worked 7 days a week
exploring different avenues for improving safety in our state.  There is so much more that
can be done, so much more we want to do.  This is an opportunity for your name or your
companies name to be forever associated with a life saving fence, a safety crossing, or
even a pedestrian bridge similar to the one being constructed right now in Wheaton, IL.
Your donation can be kept private or made public depending on your personal
preferences.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this life and death cause, I have learned that
ime can be so precious.
