Steger Citizens to Petition Village Board

Citizens from Steger represented by Kathy Burgess and Jennifer Ward will present a letter of request to Mayor Lou Sherman and the Board of Trustees next week in hopes of bringing to the city’s attention the railroad safety issues, which may have contributed to the death of Marielle C. Anderson.

A petition calling for safety reforms and signed by more than 1000 citizens was presented to Union Pacific Railroad earlier this month. KristensLaw has learned the petition has since been turned over to the ICC. Though little progress has been made, citizens of Steger are hopeful that Union Pacific along with the ICC, FRA and the Village are taking the necessary steps to prevent further tragedies from occurring.
