In hopes of preventing further tragedy, friends of the late Marielle Anderson drew up a petition asking for safety gates to extend over the pedestrian crossing where Marielle was killed (left).
Sisters Kathy Burgess (right), Jennifer Ward, and Rebecca Bohannan along with others gathered over 1000 signatures on the petitions and presented them to the Union Pacific Railroad last week.
Rebecca told us she has yet to receive any response from the railroad.
Citizens in Steger remain hopeful that Union Pacific will take swift action in correcting the problem.
