Steger Mayor Snubs Davis

Planning to exclude Railroad Safety issues from the Steger Village meeting June 5, Mayor Lou Sherman, 78, excluded our John Davis as well. The cities mayor since 1973 informed Davis earlier that the scheduled meeting would not pertain to Railroad Safety issues or the recent tragedy. Apparently the death of a 19-year-old citizen was not enough to warrant an agenda change. Upon review of the evening’s agenda we were hoping perhaps it could be squeezed in, maybe between the Carpenter St. retaining wall and Laurie Drown’s potbelly pigs, but according to the mayor, citizens must first request in writing, the village to hold a session regarding correcting the Railroad Safety issues that may have cost young Marielle Anderson her life. Upon receipt of the request (letter), the Village Board will vote on it (at next meeting). Then, if approved, the Board could set a date for the safety meeting. Argh--Politics at its best.
