Train kills Franklin Park man, but wife escapes

Bensenville and Metra police are still investigating a crash Thursday night involving a Metra train in which a Franklin Park man was killed.

Andres Martinez, 63, was killed when the Elgin-bound Milwaukee District West train struck the SUV he was driving as it sat at a railroad crossing near York Road and Main Street at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The preliminary investigation showed Martinez's Chevy Blazer was stopped on the tracks just west of York when it was struck by the train. His wife, Socorro Martinez, got out of the vehicle just before the crash, police said.

She was treated and released from a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The collision halted the train for more than three hours as emergency crews worked to secure the scene, according to Metra officials.
