Lake Forest - A
Grayslake woman was rushing to catch her train Thursday evening when she was
struck and killed by an Amtrak train in north suburban Lake Forest. Two men
standing on the platform were also injured.
About 5:20 p.m.,
Lake Forest police responded to reports of a person hit by a train at the Metra
station in the 900 block of Telegraph Road.
A woman was
rushing from the west to east side of the tracks to catch her train when an
Amtrak train -- which was not scheduled to stop at the station -- struck her,
police said. Two men standing on the east side of the platform were also
injured when the woman's body struck them.
The men, ages 42
and 50, were taken to Condell Health Network in Libertyville with minor
injuries, police said.
Teresa Spradlin,
43, of Grayslake, was dead on the scene, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller
said. She died from multiple traumatic injuries and her death appears to be
accidental, he said.
The Amtrak train
had left Chicago heading to Seattle and Portland, Amtrak spokesman Marc
Magliari said. None of the 129 passengers or 12 crew members were hurt and all
remained on the train.
The train was
delayed for nearly four hours while police investigated. Metra trains using the
tracks were also diverted.
