Artist of the Month
|
|
This month's featured artist is Anna Lipkind from Northbrook, IL. Anna was the fourth grade
second-place winner in the Third Annual Metra Safety Poster Contest. We
think Anna's design creatively illustrates why its
always smart to stand behind the yellow line while waiting for the
train. For her winning design, Anna was awarded a $250 Cash Card!
Congratulations once again, Anna!

Teacher of the Month
|
|
Each month Metra recognizes a teacher who goes above and
beyond to promote railroad safety to their students. This month, Metra
is proud to recognize Wendy Gus, Art Teacher from Cary-Grove High School. Wendy has been instrumental in
encouraging her students to participate in the Metra Safety Campaign
and its contests and, as a result, twelve Cary-Grove students have been
Metra Safety Contest winners! Thank you Wendy, for making railroad
safety a part of your lesson plans and for helping to keep our children
safe.

Featured Safety Partner

Operation Lifesaver - A Metra Safety Partner
The Metra Safety Campaign is pleased to partner with organizations,
like Metra, who make safety its number one priority. This month's
Featured Safety Partner, Operation Lifesaver, is a non-profit public
information program dedicated to reducing collisions, injuries and
fatalities at highway-rail crossings. Just last year, Operation
Lifesaver provided free railroad presentations to nearly 1.3 million
people. For more information or to sign up for an Operation Lifesaver
presentation, visit www.oli.org.
FYI
As of August 2009, Illinois is showing a
28.6% reduction in fatal collisions and a 35.5% reduction in all
collisions for the same time frame in 2008. Illinois is on track
to have its "safest" year ever. Source
