Man's body found on Glenview tracks
November 7, 2008
The body of a
man who was apparently hit by a train was spotted lying near railroad tracks in
Glenview on Thursday morning.
Ross Gordon,
43, of 3009 Mary Kay Lane in Glenview, was killed by a train at 3100 Shermer Road, according to a Cook County Medical Examiner's
office spokesman, who said Gordon was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:40
a.m. Thursday.
About 8:30
a.m., a train crew saw a body lying between two sets of tracks and contacted a
Union Pacific dispatcher, who then notified Glenview police, according to Union
Pacific spokesman Mark Davis.
To determine
what train may have hit the man, investigators looked at all the trains that
traveled through the area during a three-hour window and determined an empty
southbound coal train may have struck the man about 8 a.m., Davis said.
All information
from an event recorder aboard that train was downloaded and is being reviewed.
Information from several other trains was also collected.
The matter
remains under investigation as of Friday morning and no solid determination of
how the man was hit or which train is responsible has been made, Davis said.
All train
traffic in the area was halted after the crash until about 10:45 a.m.
Davis said
information indicating the man was in a vehicle when he was hit was not
accurate.
An autopsy for
Gordon is scheduled for later Friday.
