Davis Family Promotes Rail Safety
Since the tragic death of Lombard teen Kristen Bowen back in February 2006, Villa Park Board member John Davis has led a crusade promoting railroad safety throughout Dupage County and surrounding communities. Davis, a certified Operation Lifesaver Instructor played a key role in the development of The Presidents Committee on Safety along with the installation of miles of safety fencing along the east west railways running through Villa Park and Lombard.
Railroad Safety quickly became contagious within the family household, daughter Tiffany 19 and Jessica 14 have since become certified instructors and have left there marks on the community as well. Honored with The Community Spirit Award last year, Tiffany’s work has included several fundraisers to raise money for safety fencing, a permanent memorial dedicated to Kristen along with her lifesaving presentation work. Youngest daughter Jessica will be spreading the safety word along with her father at upcoming presentations.
The Davis’
along with T.E.A.R.S.(Targeting
Education Awareness & Railroad Safety) Representative Helen Byrd are
planning a spring and summer sweep of the local schools offering an updated
Operation Lifesaver Presentation along with promoting Metra’s Annual Safety
Poster Contest.
During Railroad Crossing Safety Week
T.E.A.R.S. would like to recognize the Davis family for their continuous
efforts in this lifesaving cause and remind everyone with the holidays
approaching to exercise extra caution at
or near railroad tracks.
