Authorities have released the
identity of a man killed Sunday morning when he was hit by a MetroLink train on
the outskirts of Belleville.
St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone
said the dead man is Kyle Hemann, 27, of Belleville.
Hemann, who lived on Franklin
Street, was hit by a MetroLink train about 7:30 a.m. near Dutch Hollow Road and
Illinois 161.
Police have said Hemann's vehicle
was found Sunday at Big Daddy's tavern in downtown Belleville, and that friends
had taken his car keys away because he was intoxicated.
A friend said Hemann and others
went from Big Daddyıs to a bar in St. Louis. The friend said Hemann's keys were
taken from him at the St. Louis bar, then Hemann somehow got separated from the
group, and he returned to Illinois on his own, possibly on MetroLink.
Stone said the man, who died of
multiple injuries, apparently was standing on the track.
"Apparently the conductor blew
the whistle approximately five times, and he never responded," Stone said.
Hemann, formerly of Germantown, was
a Web programmer at www.juggle.com in Belleville, and he previously was a Web
programming specialist at Kaskaskia College.
Moss Funeral Home in Germantown is
in charge of arrangements. Funeral and obituary information is available at www.mossfuneralhome.com.
