Authorities have
identified a 46-year-old man who was killed after being struck and dragged by a
train near 15th Street and North Grand Avenue on Friday.
Harold Kruegar Jr. of Springfield died at 5:28 p.m. Friday at St.
John’s Hospital’s emergency room. He had a number of external and internal
injuries, according to Sangamon County Coroner Susan Boone.
Kruegar, who was originally from Wisconsin, had been
living in California prior to moving to Springfield.
Boone said it is
believed Kruegar had lived in Springfield for about
two years.
Kruegar tried to walk a bicycle across railroad tracks
while wearing headphones about 4:20 p.m., according to police. He apparently
didn’t hear or see the train, which carried his body 50 feet or more down the
tracks.
