Kristen Remembered 3 Years
It has been
three years since the death of
Kristen Teresa Bowen. The
popular teen was killed
after failing to recognize a second Union Pacific freight train while taking a
shortcut to North Terrace Park in Villa Park, IL. So much has happened since the tragedy. Her death triggered safety activists to
solicit local governments to increase Railroad Safety in the community.
T.E.A.R.S.
(Targeting Education Awareness & Railroad Safety) was incorporated by father
Ray Zukowski. Efforts
spearheaded by KristensLaw author and Village Trustee
John Davis to solicit
safety fencing along these dangerous rails won approval last year securing the
Park from nearby residents. A permanent memorial
is put in place at the park in
honor of Kristen and all who have lost their lives to the railroad. As the
Illinois Death toll mounts safety advocates continue to push for KristensLaw legislation
and Railroad Safety Reforms. T.E.A.R.S.
has worked with and assisted 43 families who have lost loved ones in
train related fatalities. Our hearts and prayers will remain with these families forever.
Family and friends will remember Kristen privately with trips to the cemetery and memorial.
